Georgie Schoonmaker returned to her home in Troy, NY to visit her two sons over the Christmas holidays.  They had a wonderful time going out to dinner and frequenting the casino where her youngest son won $$.  A favorite part of her trip was visiting with John Gorman’s grandchildren.  Georgie also shared a story about their car trip back home last spring.  “About a week after returning home last season, we received a traffic citation from Ridgeland, SC for speeding.  Not only did we NOT see a police car or officer, we had no idea that a camera on a tripod in the middle of I-95 took pictures of us and our car.  John’s picture made him look like a gangster.  This was John’s 1st ever speeding ticket, and the bond, as they called it, was $133.00.  They also added $3.26 for paying with a credit card.  This did not make him happy!!!! So, to all of you who drive through Ridgeland, SC on I-95, BE CAREFUL of the speed trap there.  You won’t know anything happened until you get that exciting piece of mail.”  If anyone wants to see the incriminating photos, just ask Georgie.  Pretty funny….NOT!

Pete and Beth Weidenaar have rented a place at 7459 Danvers for the past 6 years.  They live in Lansing, Michigan, and are happy to come here for three months each year.  They both enjoy the pool as well as relaxing and reading on their lanai.  Beth sings in the chorus and performs in the variety show.  Pete is a retired social worker.  For many years he served as the CEO of the Michigan Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.  Beth is a retired substitute organist/choir director.  The two main features that make renting here so desirable are the many friends they have made in VHL and the wonderful, warm Florida weather.

Vern and Treva Heichel had the pleasure over the Christmas holidays with a visit from their daughter Susan Carter from a Cincinnati suburb.  She is an educator and the mother of two sons.  One is a teacher in a private school and the other is a missionary.  Each grandson has given Vern and Treva a great granddaughter.  Vern and Treva have led very interesting fun-filled lives….and they have the many stories to prove it.  Visits to their lanai are always entertaining.  Vern let slip that they will be celebrating 70 married years together in June.  He told me Treva’s motto is:  She’d rather fight than switch…..Love it!!!!!

Fulmar Ave

By Sandy Boyns

Welcome to Charles and Karen Silva of Warwick, Rhode Island.  They are new owners on Fulmar.  Charlie was a Warwick Fireman for 25 years, retired for 12 years and is a talented woodcarver.  Karen was and still is the homemaker.  In carious jobs over the years, the last job was with Country Curtains.  She says her most interesting was being an intern at the Roger Williams Park Zoo with the Zoo Keepers.  They have a son Matthew 36, and a daughter Jodi who is 33.  A daughter-in-law Stephanie, and two grandsons. Drew (16) and Benjamin (8).  They have been very busy working on their home.  Karen told me she will be having company coming down soon to visit, they are both looking forward to that.

Another new resident to Fulmar is Lucy Gallo.  Lucy is an American Eskimo pet.  She is a wonderful watch dog for the neighborhood.  She resides at Nancy and and Angelo Gallo’s.  Welcome to Everyone!

Marge and Gene McCool our only true year round residents on Fulmar Ave had a very busy summer.  Gene started with 60 customers for his weeding business and now he is up to over 100 yards.  Gene said it was a bad season for weeding.  Marge and Gene are awaiting their daughter Maureen’s visit.  She is an administrator at St. Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine.  She will be down the end of January and will be coming to the Village with Megan (13) and Rachael (3 ½).  They will be here for 10 days.  Marge and Gene are counting the days until their arrival.  Their son Tom, who is a General Manager of the Nuclear Power Plant in San Clemente, California just built a beautiful 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom, 4 car garage in Carlsbad, California.  Tom wants Marge and Gene to come for a visit.  They told me they are looking forward to it and getting ready for a long plane trip this spring.  It will be worth every minute of it and Tom has plenty of room for them when they arrive.  Just don’t forget to come back, as we all would miss you!  Marge has had a great year in 2011, she started weight watchers, which meets here in the village and has lost over 30 lbs.  Her health has improved tremendously.  She looks and feels great!  You can see Marge riding her bike around 2 to 3 times a day.  Congratulations Marge, way to go!

If anyone would like something written in the Voice, please let me know.  You can drop off the article to me or call me at 941-697-6491.  Thank you, Sandy.

HELLO FROM HEDWIG

By Sandy Sullivan

February already….how time flies!  Hedwig residents are busy enjoying the Florida sun!

Phil and Lita Stone again provided a brilliant Christmas display.  Lita has been busy sorting and organizing as she puts their decorations away for another year.  Lita noted that as a result her gardens are suffering and she will be busy the next few weeks nourishing them back to their glorious splendor.

Long-time renters, Doris and Skip Kull, arrived from their Pennsylvania home late December.  Doris quilts hospice blankets for Tidewell.  The blankets are made with 3 ft. squares and must include white squares for visitors and staff to autograph for the patient.  These blankets will eventually be given to the patient’s family.  To date Doris has provided Tidewell with 85 blankets!  She recently completed a lovely jacket which she made at the Village quilting class.  Skip enjoys biking, reading and working out at a local fitness center.  He had to give up horseshoes due to some skin cancer surgery on one hand.  They are looking forward to their granddaughter’s June wedding.

Bob and Linda Martin have lived in the Village for 14 years.  Bob is a retired GM engineer.  He is a member of the Woodcarvers here in the Village.  Linda is a retired nurse.  She is the “paper girl” for the Voice for Hedwig and Adana.  The Martin’s hail from Adrian Michigan and arrived in the Village early December.  They will be leaving sometime in April in time to watch one of their grandsons play spring football.  It’s amazing how those grandkids “adjust” our schedulesJ!

Please stop and/or call me (269-760-0742) with any information you would like to share in future issues.  If you would like to be the reporter for your street, Hedwig, call Sharon Simmons or myself.  Have a great winter!
